Cleared For Landing

After the release date for Duality was announced and the book trailer was released, I took some much-needed time off to relax and regroup. It felt as though a huge weight was removed and I could have collapsed into a gooey pile of happiness. Now that I’ve had that break, however, it’s time to get back to work.

I initially planned to write a lengthy and involved post on what the editing process was like for me. However, I don’t know that my experience adds anything more to what’s already been discussed hundreds of times, and often by authors much more well-known than I am. Every writer has his or her own process and preference. Each of us has our own set of rules that we prefer to adhere to, whether it’s about the use of adverbs or the Point of View or tense the novel should be written in. Also, being honest, the editing of Duality is still so fresh that I may not be able to give an objective view of it at the moment because it’s only just finished. In fairness, I need time to have held it at arm’s length so that any opinions I give are well-rounded.  That’s not to say that editing went poorly. On the contrary; it went extremely well and was much less convoluted than I thought it might be. I’m glad that a lot of the early editing already completed went a long way toward making the last edit as smooth as possible. This also has me looking ahead toward what I might expect with the second novel.

I can already tell that the next book will be a challenge from an editing standpoint and I’ll need to go back through it several times myself before submitting it for that final polish. Duality is a roughly 300-page novel. However, the new book is already over 400 pages – and I’m not done. Should it continue to grow (and there’s still some story left to tell), I may separate it into two books published six months apart. But, there’s plenty of time to figure all that out and I’m excited to do it.

In the meantime, I need to get back to Book Two. We’re some months off from the announcement of this book’s title – and I already have one! – but, I wanted to make sure to finally pop in to let everyone know that I haven’t gone missing. I just needed to relax and celebrate. Now that things are chugging along once again, posts will get back to normal – including the next installment of Taste This! I baked a Death by Chocolate Poke cake that was amaaaazing – and I made sure to take pictures to share!

Until then!
